Pantone color of the year

I can hear a big shout out already from my Manhattan, KS KSU Wildcat fans! It is a beautiful color. It’s a happy color. It’s the Pantone Color of the Year: Ultra Violet.

Most of what I have read has linked this gorgeous color to mysticism and spiritual practices … mindfulness. It’s also symbolic of “counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance”. Think Prince. David Bowie. Jimi Hendrix.

You can check out some of the other colors for 2018 here. To me, they seem … cheerful … hopeful.

Aside from color, another trend forecasted is the continuation of embroidery in design. I’m very happy to hear this. It’s a great way to individualize our knits.

As a kid I always loved embroidery and crewel work, although I was never very good at it. However, there are a few of the simpler techniques I’ve been able to master.

Along those lines, here are a few you can try. And here’s a page that lists the links to the videos. Why not go dig out a simple knit hat or mitten and jazz it up a little?

Hello Kennita! I visited your shop when we took our dog to KState Vet. You were a must-see for each trip to Manhattan. I just bought Noro Issue 13 expressly for the cropped poncho- reading the magazine more closely today, your name leapt out of the description. I’ll enjoy knitting this one even more knowing it came from you! Happy to see you exploring your life post-shop! — Enjoy! Brenda

Hi Brenda, thanks for writing! Most people that visited my shop had no idea that I’d been designing long before opening the shop. I don’t do as much freelance now, but that one was really fun to do. So glad you liked it!
